Oregon became one of 12 states to adopt the Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hear Act (CROWN Act).
On June 11, 2021, Governor Brown signed into law its version of the CROWN Act expanding existing laws against racial discrimination by adding physical characteristics that have historically been associated with race, including natural hair, hair texture, hair type, hair color, and the use of braids. The new law goes into effect on January 1, 2022.
Employers will need to update their existing dress code policies to comply with the new law.
